RACHEL KANN is back with 10 FOR EVERYTHING!!!

LAST WEEK: The Palmer Room was filled wall-to-wall with 80+ people there to vibe out to the soul of SHOOBIE and his ensemble! We had mad guests in from the Bay Area as well--shouts to KAT SANFORD, NAZELAH, and DAHLED who each blessed the mic with that Oaktown realness...and making his triumphant return on the wheels of steel was our very own DJ MIKECHECK! The energy was amazing all around...!

THIS WEEK: One of our faves is coming back to the Palmer to drop some literary science on that ass from her new book, 10 For Everything. That's right, y'all: RACHEL KANN is gonna be in the building reading from her new collection of short stories published by Sybaritic Press. Wanna hear some of the reviews?

"Kann is fearless in her writing, venturing to places less courageous authors hint at but never fully reveal."

--Aldra Robinson, getunderground.com

"Rachel Kann has crafted an addictive parallel universe, where funky little worlds shift and shudder, and characters are deftly etched and blessed with her gleefully skewed perspective. The sharp lyricism of these stories, which practically beg to be read aloud, unmask Ms. Kann for the poet she is, and that unpredictability of language is nothing less than a revelation."

--Patricia Smith, Teahouse of the Almighty (National Poetry Series Winner,) Four Time National Poetry Slam Champion

"Anyone lucky enough to hear Rachel Kann perform knows that this woman has a Voice. What a thrill to see this voice translated into fiction, into a wide range of other voices, voices that burn right through the page with their yearning for, and fear of, connection. She’s crafted stories that are fresh and surprising, with a true human heartbeat."

--Gayle Brandeis, The Book of Dead Birds (Bellwether Prize for Fiction Winner)

Cool, right? Bring your spendin' cash, Greenies, because Rachey will have this book available for 12 measly bucks! GET YOUR READ ON, PLAYERS!

See you at the Palmer,

Rob, Joshua, and Jedi.

  ummm... OH yeah, GREEN!
WORD UP, GREEN FANS! A huge THANKS to all of you who came out last Monday and made Round one of the battle for Los Angeles so freaking amazing! This Monday we have even more amazing-ness to come.
Let us take a journey to a place where rhythm is possessed by all, blues is more than a sad story but an emotional sensation from within, where soul and funk is the spring of life, life is controlled by sound, and that sound is created by SHOOBIE. A native of Los Angeles, California, Shoobie has had a passion for singing since the age of two years old. Growing up with his mother and father, Shoobie has had the influences of Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and the Commodores just to name a few, blasting through the speakers. After years of hard work, grinding, and honing his skills as an artist, Shoobie now feels that it is his time to share his gift with the world. Ladies and gentlemen, sit back, relax, and get ready to identify with each and every word as it moves through your soul. It is my honor to present to you, SHOOBIE.

Come out and enjoy our feature along with all of your green favorites (Jedi, Rob and Joshua), this Monday at the Palmer Room! Jedi starts spinning at 9pm, the open mic starts at 9:30pm!!!!!!!!!!! Open mic sign up list is closed at 10:pm!!!!!!!!! SO BE ON TIME!...please.
peace,
all of us

  BATTLE FOR LA! THIS MONDAY!
It's that time of year again, True Believers, the time when young men and women' fancies turn from love and rockets to whooping butt verbally for bragging rights. Yep, it's slam season, kids, and what better way to celebrate than for us to host Round One of the Battle For Los Angeles!

It's gonna be Team Hollywood versus the Los Angeles Slam Team versus our very own Gang Green in a triple threat throwdown to see who's got the goods--let's run down a Tale of the Tape:

HOLLYWOOD: Shihan, In-Q, Tshaka, Nikki Blak, Javon The Golden Child.
LA: Tamara Blue, Judy Holiday, Def Sound, Simply Kat, Prolific Thought.
GANG GREEN: Lara Kaapuni, Paul Mabon, Cayenne, Gill, Eric Morago.

That's a helluva lot of talent to cram into one night. And it would be cliche to say that the winner will be you, but it's TRUE. These poets are gonna bring their A-game to make sure that they come out on top and have a good workout to get ready for Nationals. It'll be nothing but top-notch performances and inspiring words all night long.

This is a benefit to help the teams get to Austin, TX for the National Poetry Slam, so there will be a $5 cover. But it's SO worth it!

See you at the Palmer ready to rumble,
Rob, Jedi, and Joshua.
