Seattle's own RYLER DUSTIN rocks GREEN!

LAST WEEK: The action was fast and furious, as the monthly edition of Extreme Championship Poetry blew up the spot something righteous. "Lethal" Lara Kaapuni has proven herself to be a cross-competition maniac, as her impassioned "Little Shop of Horrors" set rolled up Tamara Blue's "Friday" trifecta and smoked it! The fabulous Marty McConnell showed us once again where the page and the stage collide in one beautiful, powerful set! And in the main event, Manuel played to his strengths and as a result, Judah-1 will be experiencing the divine sanctity of the dancehall...!

THIS WEEK:

The Palmer remains a haven for the best in travelling poets as we welcome from Seattle, RYLER DUSTIN!

Ryler Dustin has been writing poetry for three years and has already
featured in places like Seattle's Richard Hugo House, New York's Bowery
Poetry Club and Boston's Cantab Lounge. He represented Seattle in the
2005 Individual World Poetry Slam, was a member of the 2006 Seattle Slam
Team, and placed eight in this year's Individual World Poetry Slam. Jack
McCarthy calls Ryler "hands down the most exciting young poet I have
encountered in ten years of coast-to-coast travels through the poetry
underground." Ryler's work appears in magazines like Jeopardy,
Chrysanthemum, and Bear Creek Haiku. He's a student at Western Washington
University, where he studies creative writing.

And the open mic is there as always for your three minutes of fame! Support our out-of-town comrades and BE THERE!!!

See you at the Palmer,
Slim, Jedi, and Joshua.

MARTY MCCONNELL...and EXTREME CHAMPIONSHIP POETRY!

LAST WEEK: Big ups to Joshua for holding it down for Sick Rob last week, and for Aaron Johnson and Joseph Nieves rocking their Strip Poetry feature...!

THIS WEEK:

First, a little bit about our feature, straight outta New York:

Marty McConnell received her MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and co-curates the flagship reading series of the louderARTS Project , a New York City-based literary nonprofit. She appeared on the second and fifth seasons of HBO's Def Poetry Jam, was a member of five National Poetry Slam teams representing New York City, and is one-fourth of the all-female performance poetry troupe The Piper Jane Project. She performs and facilitates workshops at schools and festivals around the country, including The Dodge Poetry Festival, Connecticut Poetry Festival, Cornell University, the University of Utah, James Madison University, University of Connecticut, University of Arkansas, DePaul University, and more. Her work has been published in numerous anthologies including Homewrecker: An Adultery Reader, Bullets and Butterflies: Queer Spoken Word Poetry, Will Work for Peace, In Our Own Words: Poetry of Generation X , and the forthcoming Women of the Bowery and Fucking Daphne anthologies, as well as magazines including Rattapallax, Fourteen Hills, Boxcar Poetry Review, Thirteenth Moon, 2River View, Lodestar Quarterly, and Blue Fifth Review.

Classy, right? Accomplished, no? Well, soak it up, reprobates, because she's performing right in the middle of two NEW Extreme Championship Poetry slams!

Coming off the heels of last month's successful Movie Quote Slam, this month the sisters are doing it for themselves. I'm talking LARA KAAPUNI repping "Little Shop Of Horrors" against TAMARA BLUE repping...uh, "Purple Rain", maybe? "Friday", perhaps? Tamara changes her mind more than Joshua changes outfits so I guess we'll find out on Monday! The stakes: The loser cannot perform their signature poem at the Western Regionals at Big Sur! VIVE LE ORIGINALITY!

And the main event: It's a booker's dream match! Two of Green's biggest supporters also represent two very different sides of our vast demographic, and they're going three rounds on our stage in the very first SAINT VS. SINNER MATCH! That's right: JUDAH-1 takes on MANUEL slam-style, and the stakes?

If Manuel loses, he goes to church with Judah.
If Judah loses, he goes to the strip club with Manuel.

All this for a measly FIVE BUCKS! Be there, ON TIME, and ready to be THOROUGHLY ENTERTAINED!

See you at the Palmer,
Rob (soon to be Slim again), Jedi, and Joshua.

Together, Joseph and Aaron write poetry about being left-handed, loving comic books, and modern American culture through a political, lovable, and comical eye. Their act has been described as “an emotional journey laced with logic, pathos and off-beat humor – they are superheroes and they might save someone’s life through poetry”.

They'll be at MELTDOWN COMICS in Hollywood at 4PM on Monday, and then they hit the Palmer stage that night!

AND COMING UP:

June 25th: ECP SLAM! It's Lara Kaapuni vs. Tamara Blue in a quote slam, Manuel vs. Judah-1 in a "Saint Vs. Sinner" match, and the brilliant MARTY MCCONNELL features!

RUDY FRANCISCO IN THE HOUSE!

LAST WEEK: Oooh, it was UGLY! Sam Skow served Paul Mabon a Breakfast Club, Tamara Blue won $50 and got challenged by "Lethal" Lara Kaapuni, and Def Sound beat Mr.--I mean, Darnell Davenport, Jr. in the stage name battle (and yes, your troublemaking host got his too, thanks to an 18 syllable haiku and the machinations of Ms. Kaapuni once again...just call me Rob or Robert, please)!

THIS WEEK: From San Diego, we are proud to bring you in his first Green appearance: RUDY FRANCISCO!

Rudy Francisco was born and raised in San Diego, California. At the age of 21, Rudy completed his B.A in Psychology and decided to continue his education by pursuing a M.A in Organizational Behavior. As an artist, Rudy Francisco combines activism and poetry to enlighten the minds of all those who witness his performance. Rudy eloquently absorbs the experiences of those around him, synthesizes them and converts their stories into poetry in an attempt to enlighten those around him. Furthermore, Rudy has made conscious efforts to cultivate young poets and expose local youth to the genre of Spoken Word Poetry. He has done this by conducting workshops and performances at Bell Jr High, High-tech Middle School, High-tech High school, Crawford High School, San Diego High school, MAC Charter School and Castle Park High school. Rudy has also received admiration from institutions of higher education. He has conducted guest lectures and performances at San Diego State University, University of California San Diego, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Fullerton, University of Redlands, Cal Poly Pamona, and Alliant International University. In addition to his contributions to educational institutions, Rudy Francisco is also the co-host of the 2 largest poetry venues in San Diego (Elevated and Vibes). Rudy has featured at A Mic and Dim Lights, the Untamed Tongues Poetry Lounge in Las Vegas, has been crowned San Diegos Poet of the People on 2 separate occasions, currently holds the record for the most consecutive Voz Alta Poetry Slams won, memeber of the 2007 San Diego Slam team and was crowned 2007 San Diego Grand Slam Champion. Ultimately, Rudys goal is to continue to assist others in harnessing their creativity while cultivating his own...

ALSO: From Vancouver, the multi-talented beatboxin' harmonica playin' guitar strummin' genius of C.R. AVERY in a mini-set!

Get thee to the Palmer,
Jedi (not his real name), Joshua, and Robert Ross Sturma.
