LAST GREEN OF 2007! BE THERE, HEATHENS!

These weeks are flying by, Greenheads. Here's the weekend update:

One more blowout night before we retire for 2006, y'all. And it is indeed on a Monday, and it is indeed at the Palmer Room. And we are having a SLAM. And it is the next qualifying slam for Team Gang Green 2007, the slam team that will represent Green at the National Poetry Slam this year. And I am trying to slam for my own team. which means Joshua will be hosting. Beat-hosting, I daresay. And last month's qualified poet, LARA KAAPUNI will be co-hosting. And we have featured performers in POETS OF THE ROUND TABLE. And it's 5 bucks. And it'll be super fun. AND: potential SLAM JUDGES: we now have the dopest dry-erase scorecards in the CITY!

And. And. And...

The rest will be history when you get yer butt to the Palmer.
See you there,

Slim erring on the side of Jedi and Joshua

NO GREEN THIS WEEK! NEXT WEEK: LAST SHOW OF 2006!

LAST WEEK: Our return to the UnUrban brought a lot of dedicated Greenies out, and it was a great night filled with amazing energy. It was "Cover NIght", wherein the majority of our performers were true to the theme and rocked poems and songs by luminaries from In-Q to Tom Waits, from Bassey to Rumi, from Derrick Brown to Jason Bayani, from Aesop Rock to Sam Skow...you get the idea. Plus, Japanese poet Kei Kunihiro came through and got all punk rock on our asses...Jedi spun nothin' but the best cover songs all night long, and the UnUrban staff were lovely and supportive! Thank you immensely to all who came out!

(Photo of the week taken by sexy-ass Judy Holiday aka Eboni Bragg, right before Joshua's head exploded into a million little pieces)

THIS WEEK: Ah, the holidays, Greenlings. Full of joy and laughter and retail madness and Scientologists creating winter wonderlands on the holiest of boulevards. 'Tis a time when our thoughts turn to loved ones and internet shopping and...okay, I'm rambling.

So we WILL NOT, repeat, NOT be at the Palmer again this week. No alternate venues this week either, I'm afraid. Take a week off. Write something. Read something. Be good to yourselves. And rest up, because next week, December 18th, is the last show of the year for us. AND: The NEXT qualifying slam for Team Gang Green 2007! What a way to end our first year at the Palmer, eh? BE THERE!

And as always, stay tuned to this space for future updates on the future of your favorite open mic in the universe.

See you at the Palmer NEXT week,
Slim, Jedi, and Joshua.

P.S. I implore you to stop by Da Poetry Lounge this Tuesday (544 Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, or check out dapoetrylounge.com) to see the gent who was supposed to be our feature this week. He's ranked 5th in the nation in the National Poetry Slam, he's all the way from Boston, he's Beau Sia endorsed...JAMIE KILSTEIN will rock your mothereffin' socks off. Support good art, y'all...!

DIFFERENT LOCATION THIS WEEK: THE UNURBAN CAFE!

This just in, Green Army:

This week, we will NOT be at the Palmer Room. Same for next week. That's the 4th and the 11th of December for those keeping score. This week (Dec 4th), we are going retro and revisiting our old stomping grounds at The UnUrban Cafe in Santa Monica. Everything else still applies: Jedi, Joshua, and Slim in the house, 9pm to midnight, and still FREE!

That's:

The UnUrban Cafe
3301 Pico Blvd.
Santa Monica, CA

This week we have no featured performer, but we in the spirit of reviving old traditions, it's COVER NIGHT! That simply means, o true believers, we ask that you read someone else's material. It can be poems, songs, whatever floats your boat, but leave your ego at the door and share something that inspires you!

ALSO: This SATURDAY, December 2nd, DJ Jedi and Ratpack Slim will be performing at the grand re-opening of GOLDEN APPLE COMICS, now at 7018 Melrose Ave right off of LaBrea, from 6 to 9 PM! One of us is gonna be spinning records, one of us will be getting his nerd poems on. Guess which'll be doing what!

AND: Last week, we had our first official qualifying slam for the 2007 Gang Green Slam Team, with the amazing TAAJ FREEMAN holding it down as our feature. Taaj flipped from haikus to masterful imagery, and is definitely welcome back anytime she wants to grace our stage...! And congrats to our first two qualifiers for Gang Green 07: "Lethal" LARA KAAPUNI and "Devastatin'" DOMINICA! X chromosome REPRESENT!

See ya at THE UNURBAN...!

Slim, Jedi, and Joshua
