GREEN IS HAVING A SLAM!

Indeed, the snarky open mic that last year risked going to Big Sur to rub up against real slam poets is getting itchy for blood. GREEN is announcing the first in a series of monthly slams going down at The Palmer Room on the last Monday of every month! We're about making this a good time, so we're gonna be rocking invitational slams and themed slams to create a maximum night of entertainment! Like, let's see who's doing this first one...

Well, it's a four-person slam, three rounds, and the third round is the "ANYTHING GOES" round. Meaning? Just that. Props, costumes, music, other poets, camels, sparklers, whatever it takes. In three minutes. So there's that.

And then we decided to make a battle of poetry hosts. Like rep ya hood. So we got SHIHAN THE PROTOTYPE to rep Da Poetry Lounge, BESSKEPP to speak for A Mic and Dim Lights, and PAUL MABON to rep Les Trois Vies. And RATPACK SLIM for Green's guy.

and then have them battle for the Super Hardcore Intervenue Title belt.

And then we decided to let our resident curmudgeon and disgruntled former slam poet SAM SKOW to host. and JOSHUA SILVERSTEIN to beatbox and stuff. and DJ MIKECHECK, who has been on fire lately (but we're still waiting for the Fiona Apple beat-juggling routine, man).

and then maybe throw in some live performances by IN-Q and THE GINA LORING BAND.

and only ask for 5 measly bucks.

Tell your friends that there's a new slam in town!

See ya at the Palmer on January 30,

Slim, Jedi, Joshua and Mikecheck

NIKKI BLAK AT GREEN!

That's right, LA poetry heads. We're very excited to have one of our best young writers featuring at our spot. We met NIKKI BLAK at Les Trois Vies, and we really dug her honest vibes and earthy words. She's got a book and everything, and it's called "Girl", and you should bring money to buy it. Nikki Blak features Monday January 23 at Green. 9PM to midnight...

and we hear tell that last week's kick-ass last-minute feature, MIGHTY MIKE MCGEE, may be in the hizzle.

and don't forget the SLAM! JANUARY 30TH! It's Shihan The Prototype vs. Besskepp vs. Paul Mabon vs. Ratpack Slim in a battle for the Super Hardcore Intervenue Title! Hosted by saucy curmudgeon and resident poet SAM SKOW. At the Palmer Room, like always. 9 PM start. $5 at the door! The event of the week!

See ya at the Palmer,
Slim, Jedi, Josh, and Mike

ALVIN LAU rocks the Green stage!!!

Look at who we got here, come Monday the 16th:

With some of his first poems, Alvin Lau captained three poetry slam teams to back-to-back-to-back citywide and nationwide youth championships. In his rookie year competing at the adult level, he made individual finals at both the National Poetry Slam and the Individual World Poetry Slam, becoming not only the youngest poet to make an indie finals, but also the only poet to make finals at both slams in the same year. Last February he filmed for the fifth season of HBO's Def Poetry Jam and was immediately invited back to tape for the sixth season. He has spoken and performed at numerous schools across the country, including Grinnell College, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and Harvard University. Alvin is currently living in Chicago where he is studying poetry and theatre.

Last week we had performers from Art.Us Mansoir to the Mayes Brothers in the building, and big ups to DJ Mikecheck who lasted as long as his sick self could, still rocking the 1's and 2's amidst tons of flu...

And peace to our first poetry heckler!

What's going down this week? Come by the Palmer and find out!

Here's to Mondays,
Slim, Jedi, Joshua, and Mike

EITAN KADOSH IN THE HOUSE JANUARY 9TH!!

Now that we've all had plenty of rest, exchanged our weird gifts, and broken our resolutions, it's time to bring in 2006 with the first of a series of killer features...

Eitan Kadosh is a poet-of-all-trades and no stranger to the Green stage, having battled in our Freestyle Haiku bouts last year. He's also done the slam thing once upon a time, and has rocked TV shows, colleges, and I'm sure, a few bar mitzvahs...he's currently involved with PEN West, an excellent program for emerging writers. Yeah, he's got the goods. And he'll be sharing a chunk of his upcoming one-man show this Monday at the Palmer Room!

9 PM to midnight, campers. Don't sleep.

and January 16th: from Chicago, Alvin Lau!

See you at the Palmer,

Slim, Jedi, Josh, and Mike

Looks like Green is out of commission this week, kids...

We got to the spot, and they were all kinds of closed! Rest assured, we WILL be alive and well and back in the Palmer Room this NEXT Monday, January 9th. Our long time friend and talented wordsmith EITAN KADOSH will be giving us a taste of his upcoming one-man show.

See ya January 9th!
