HOLY CRAP! IT'S PAULIE LIPMAN!Last night, at the sanctum sanctorum that is Casa del Green, there was a secret meeting of some of the finest minds ever to sit around and talk about stuff. Negotiations were made, and we're proud to say that we now have a feature for our post-hangover Green this Monday, January 2nd...
Denver's own
Paulie Lipman will be throwing high-energy poems and rants at you! Paulie's a touring vet who's got the kind of show we love at Green--fast, loud, and full o' heart...and we hear tell that
Alex Charalambides may be in the building as well.
And YOU, of course. YOU will be in the house. January 2nd. Palmer Room.

Okay.
This is how we're rolling in the New Year.
We are BACK, Greenos. Open for business. That is to say, we are up and at the Palmer Room again on JANUARY 2ND. And the rest of January is hot to death. Really. Like...
Jan 9th: EITAN KADOSH.
Jan 16th: ALVIN LAU.
Jan 23rd: NIKKI BLAK (and MIKE MCGEE in a mini-feature!).
Jan 30: 4-WAY SLAM: SHIHAN VS. BESSKEPP VS. PAUL MABON VS. RATPACK SLIM!
But this week--bring your thoughts, concerns, salutations, what have you, to 3387 Motor Ave and poetically hang with the Gang!

MAN, what a good show last night! It was an exciting monday for ol' Slimmy, folks. Started in the morning when i met Joshua at 100.3 The Beat to be part of John Salley's Block Party, representing spoken word to the masses. We spit "The Spark" and clocked in well under the 2 minute time limit, and it was super fun (once i didn't wanna throw up from nervousness). Big ups to John Salley and the lovely Ananda Lewis, who is a much better co-host than Joshua.
Poetronigirl did a great set, accompanied by her friend Luis on guitar, and then later Art.Us Mansoir, who we'll be seeing a lot more of on the Green stage. She took us "Black In The Day" and made me remember why Cleopatra Jones is superior to Foxy Brown (yeah, I said it). Also repping at the last Green of 05 were heads like Sandbloom, Cody Chavez (back from a 2 year hiatus!), Jordan Ehrlich, and our lovable cast of regulars (Sam and Lara tag teamed a group piece) got down with Green-like goodness. and Happy Birthday to Josh Lewis who got busy on the guitar whilst he rocked and beatboxed. Good stuff.
We're taking this next week off for whatever holiday you'll be celebrating, but we will be back on January 2 for a post-hangover launch into '06 Green style. and in January...
--hailing from Chicago, Illinois, armed with spit and wit, ALVIN LAU will rock your ass off.
--Green favorite. Gentleman. scholar. paper-tosser. EITAN KADOSH will be back to preview chunks of his one-man show.
--The first Super Hardcore Intervenue Title is up for grabs at a 3-round 4-man slam to the death! Repping Da Poetry Lounge, SHIHAN, repping Mic and Dim Lights, BESSKEPP, repping Les Trois Vie (RIP), PAUL MABON, and repping Green, me (RATPACK SLIM). It will be the event of the winter. Until the next one comes along.
And at least one or two more surprises, once they confirm. So, again, no Green on Dec 26th. Green back on January 2. You will be there. You want to. You NEED to.

Once again, Green enthusiasts, we had a grand old time at The Palmer Room, as a lot of old friends and first-timers to the new spot bonded over words and spirits...the stage saw heads like Cornelius Rex, Sekou Tha Misfit and Bowerbird hit the stage and pontificate about guns, love, and drugs (individually, of course), while luminaries like Bridget Gray, Rives, and Azikiwe Andrews were in the house to support...
and In-Q blessed us with an energy-filled, off-the chain, off-the stage feature. If you haven't picked up his new CD "Life", do it yesterday. He's selling it for insanely cheap, and it is more than worth it.
This Monday,
--Listen to 100.3 FM The Beat at 9:45 AM to hear Joshua Silverstein and yours truly (er, that's Ratpack Slim for the uninitiated) on the John Salley Block Party where will poeticize and beat box our way onto the airwaves...
then, come see us and DJ Jedi at The Palmer Room around the 9 PM hour, when our feature will be one of the OGs of the LA poetry scene, Roni Walter aka Poetronigirl! She's been doing the Acoustically Speaking showcases, and now is making a triumphant return to spoken word with a new CD and a set on our stage!
Last Green of '05, so get over to Green and yuk it up with the big kids!

IN-Q THIS WEEK AT GREEN!Well, our premiere at the Palmer Room went off with nary a bumble; the lovely and talented
Alex Charalambides helped christen the new space with a bronco-buster of a set, and the Green Army was reppin' hard.
Big props to our bartender/longtime Green supporter
Jasmin; we'll get her on the mic this week so you can say you tipped a poet...
Also, this week is the week of
IN-Q, one of our favorite emcees on the scene...Monday morning, tune into The Beat (100.3 FM in LA) around 9:45, and hear Joshua Silverstein and In-Q tear up the airwaves. Then, come out to the Palmer that same evening and hear Inky do a feature set on our awesome new stripper-esque stage.
...and of course, the world-famous
DJ Jedi, and appearances by various members of
Gang Green to get all huffy about.
Come see us! Monday! Palmer Room! Culver City! Right after Monday Night Football, and rockin' until the wheels (of steel) fall off!

DECEMBER FEATURES AT THE "NEW" GREEN!First of all, big love and respect to all who came through to our UnUrban swan song performance;
April King rocked the house with freestyles and mad energy, even after
blowing out TWO TIRES on the way to the feature!
Wednesday was also a hot night when DJ Jedi had his first listening party at On The Rox, above the historic Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip...thanks to all who braved non-existent parking and came out to support Jedi's solo run of the place!
Okay, so it's our first month at the new digs (The Palmer Room), and we've lined up some kick-ass features to end 2005 with a bang:
DECEMBER 5TH: All the way from New England,
ALEX CHARALAMBIDES will be in the house! I've seen this guy rock out at the National Poetry Slam before, and he will not disappoint. Show him some West Coast love!
DECEMBER 12TH: One of our favorites emcees,
IN-Q will be getting us some form of crunk. His new CD,
Life, is an exciting new direction for him, and I know he'll have it for sale hella cheap...!
DECEMBER 19TH: The last Green of the year brings us a woman who some call the godmother of the LA spoken word scene...
POETRONIGIRL, aka Roni Walter! She's been out of the poetry loop for a minute, and we couldn't be prouder to welcome her back into the fold!
so, of course, let's recap the details of the new spot:
THE PALMER ROOM (in the back of La Cucina Paradiso)
3387 MOTOR AVE. (between Palms and National on the corner of Woodbine)
and that's from 9 to midnight, and that is still free, and yes, big kids, the bar will be open! Check us out--same Green guys, same Green steelo!
