KAREN LADSON. Karen came to Green on her
birthday on July 4th and delivered a great set for our intimate, unpatriotic crowd (hah!)...Karen's a seasoned poetry vet who's been all over the Bay as a host, performer, slammer (currently on Team San Jose), and provocateur, and her eclectic heartfelt set was a joy to hear. Plus, she brought our pal Mango Bear with her. Did I mention that Karen rocks? Well...Karen rocks!
JOSHUA SILVERSTEIN. That's right, our very own resident beatboxer and co-host took the stage as our featured performer (Slimmy sat in on the CD player as "DJ Star Wars Reference"). He had a series of serious-looking effects pedals, and he created sonic soundscapes as he combined beatboxing and poetry to keep us all entertained and in the groove during his set. It's good to hear Joshy spit his truths in verbal form as well. Props to you, brother!

Gang Green (aka Sam Skow, Lara Kaapuni, UnSaen, Manuel, and alternate Tarous) will be wreaking a bit of well-written havoc on the Henry Miller library at Big Sur this weekend, July 17-18. It's the West Coast Regional Championship--Gang Green will be competing against nine other slam teams for bragging rights and maybe even cash! It's a great time with amazing performances all weekend, and I couldn't be prouder to have Green represented in the big leagues. For more info, check out westcoastslam.com...

--Slim has made his way onto the Hollywood Slam Team, where he will be competing at the National Poetry Slam in Albequerque, NM, in August!
--Jedi is still on tour with Digable Planets, where he's been sharing stages with hip hop heavies like ?uestlove (from the Roots) and Jeru the Damaja, and where he's getting ready to perform at LOLLAPALOOZA in Chicago!
